Building a business ecosystem (Part I)

How to build an entrepreneurial ecosystem? How to stimulate business creation and innovation? How to make a place an attractor of talent and ideas? These questions echo on time within the various debates, round tables, seminars, conferences and seminars each year to local development issues. And just as regularly the myth of Silicon Valley is presented as a benchmark to strive, as if the one and only true way to rispostagli questions above.

Unfortunately
Scholars who have studied this issue more seriously widely considered converge in this way, precisely, nothing more than a myth. Today I would like to express some thoughts about it. Proceed for points, trying to outline what I believe to be the most promising avenues to boost entrepreneurship at local level. To sweep away any doubts I state that I do not believe in the existence of a "formula" winner. But I believe that we can define the guidelines, a kind of roadmap, starting with some simple principles.

Principle 1: Stop Fantasising about the Valley!
Silicon Valley is the expression of a process development based on the extraordinary combination of circumstances are unique and unrepeatable. I quote the most striking (but the list could be much longer):
a) The presence of a great industrial infrastructure focused on the aerospace and radio on which you are grafted the first major business venture. On this point return to the blog of Bradford Cross and its rich historical reconstruction of the Silicon Valley phenomenon, recoverable here.
b) liberal and open culture of California, a region that has been shaped by pioneers ready to abandon old certainties to pursue new opportunities. And of course the widespread entrepreneurial spirit of a country, the USA, where sina is small exposed to stories, "mythical" figures and business innovators such as Edison or Benjamin Franklin, and where the streets are statues dedicated to the captains of industry like Andrew Carnegie or Henry Ford.
c) Stanford and the relationship between universities and industry. The Stanford University developed since the first years of life with an orientation of openness and exchange against the industry. The University of California are also historically engaged in the promotion of science parks, technology transfer offices, incubators and investment funds (Stanford, to name one of many scandals, has grossed $ 200 million from its stake in Google!). To these are added a p olite extremely liberal towards foreign PhD. Suffice it to say that in 2008 the new companies founded or co-founded by foreign immigrants were 52% of the total. In 1998, 25%.
s) The presence of an exceptional 60 years as Fairchild Semiconductor, a pioneering research laboratory which will come out within a few years, the future founders of such giants as Intel, AMD, National Semiconductor, Kleiner Perkins and Xerox Parc, the latter organizations to turn designed to burgeon legions of entrepreneurs (the famous " fairchildren "), as shown in the figure below.

This combination of factors has set in motion a process far from linear and highly idiosyncratic. Therefore impossible to play "by design”. Ispirarsi a un modello di riferimento è quasi sempre utile e costruttivo, a patto che non si tratti di un modello utopico. Nel prossimo post cercherò di contrapporre alla chimera Silicon Valley 3 semplici idee su come avviare un percorso di costruzione dell’ecosistema graduale e “dal basso”.

Winter Trail woods Carrega

Sunday, March 6, 2011 8:00 am flight from Lazzareto, the pretext is to test the joint rebel, the selected site forests Carrega It is only by coincidence that this date and This place is the Winter Trail carries the same name, organized by my team to come: given the circumstances I am compelled to participate.

So with resignation ... I am about to leave for the woods and valleys, on the first Sunday after a sunny lu ngo period of weather of only those athletic, hope is a good sign. The place is truly spectacular, it is advisable to visit the website of the person for a pleasant giornata di corsa e non.
It's the time of the street, the sun high makes me regret choosing clothing for the day, I'll sweat too much. I wonder why he had taken shape in my mind the idea of \u200b\u200ba journey that would take place on well-maintained streets in orderly rows of trees, the first mile just to bring me back to earth ... even on the mud, just a pleasant surprise! A perfect mix for today's race, behind a week of rain, now sunshine and mild temperatures, the wood still in the balance between the torpor of winter and the awakening of spring offers us an alternate vision of fallen leaves and dead branches under the weight of snow and an explosion of colors and color therapy while greedily inhale the fragrance required for air as a propellant in the first hard climb, the length of 20 km race is divided into two rounds of ten, the first round through it studying the reactions of the infamous articles, studies so much that I can even take a wrong turn as the last runner of the bitumen, losing several positions, but that will not cause nightmares in the night after the race. At the end of lap one to leave the dining Hydration inappropriately worn and I try to have some fun, the shape is far from being able to walk but some nice downhill section of "drifting" and I jump with enough security has significantly improved the mood, the last kilometers to spend them to make navigation a runner with the same sense of direction that a compass needle of wood after she passed, perhaps in the throes of performance anxiety regularly embarked on the road wrong promptly corrected by my screams, and even this trail! A moment of terror when we land about two kilometers from the finish on the asphalt ... down, I really wanted to avoid it, but fortunately is only a short distance, a beautiful climb with us until the finish line, the reduced graft and as a good diesel car finish recovering some places and wearing a nice pair of tailor-made booster with the mud! Beautiful day, and now looking corricchia di riprendere la forma, possibilmente non quella alla sinistra della testata del blog, buone corse!

Unità d'Italia. Prima parte.

http://info.worldbank.org/etools/tradesurvey/mode1b.asp#ranking

Here's where things get difficult for two reasons. First, the laws are too numerous and too complicated, also "made the law find the loophole" that often opens an Italian who lives with the constant doubt that what is not guaranteed tonight to tomorrow morning. Or the one that guarantees that the court is belied by the TAR. Or that what establishes the TAR is canceled by an amnesty, a sudden change of government administration or a new decree salvaproroghe, or a "law excerpt. How Prezzolini
said in 1924 in Italy, nothing is permanent except the interim.
The thing to laugh to keep from crying, is that to simplify the laws of the Berlusconi government invented a new ministry: the Ministry of Simplification. The Minister for Simplification, a discipline that is unique in the world, is the League's Calderoli, famous for having promulgated at the time what he called "a real crap", the Italian electoral law currently in force and for some reason has not yet been either simplified or abolished. In no country in the world there is such a ministry in which employees, managers, Ministers, Secretaries and eat a free ride and squander public money. What do all day? Simplify?
may have simplified their lives, with offices and salaries paid by the Italian taxpayers, our life has remained the same.
fact in the world ranking of freedom of investment and trade are in bad shape. Yet the government of Prime Minister has always promised free enterprise.
In reality the promises were never kept.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative American decidedly inspired by the principles of market freedom and private initiative, each year he studied the parameters for the economic opportunities in each country. In the world ranking, Italy is 87esima:

http://www.heritage.org/index/Ranking

and free enterprise in our country is considered to be similar or worse than that of poor countries like Burkina Faso, Zambia and Madagascar.
The situation in Italy becomes dramatic when we consider the university culture. Italian universities in the world rankings there are indeed are not even included in the rankings and dilapidated buildings in a state of neglect, poor scientific research, partly because of limited resources and professors with the recommendations made, a few publications, mediocre level.
There is not one Italian in the top 200 universities in the world

http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2010-2011/top-200.html

In the first 5 places include:
1) Harvard University
2) California Institute of Technology
3) Massachusetts Institute of Technology
4) Stanford University
5) Princeton University
But the situation does not change if we look only to Europe: http://www

.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2010-2011/europe.html

Browse the list of the 82 best European universities do not find an Italian.
The first 10 of the rankings of European universities:
1) University of Cambridge
2) University of Oxford
3) Imperial College of London
4) Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich
5) University College London
6) Ecole Polytechnique in Paris
7) University of Edinburgh
8) Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris
9) tied the University of Gottingen in Germany and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden
followed by the University of Lausanne, Monaco di Baviera, Bristol.
At this point I imagined that at least in the field of art and humanities, fields in which Italy has a history of close universally known, our universities were present. No, the list of 50 best universities in the world in art and the humanities there is not even an Italian one.

http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2010-2011/arts-and-humanities.html

It can be assumed that the organizations that compile these rankings, being mostly English or American, tend to favor its own academic institutions and, furthermore, in a world that speaks English Anglo-Saxon universities are favored over others. All true, but in the list, there are universities in France, Spain, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Swedish, Dutch, Irish, Australian. Italian zero.

The same desolation you feel when you go to see the ranking of press freedom in the world:

http://www.freedomhouse.org/template.cfm?page=251&year=2010

Italy is classified as a country with limited press freedom and is in the group of nations such as Turkey, Colombia, Kenya, Mongolia, Mozambique and Namibia, where television and newspapers are largely controlled or strongly influenced by the prime minister in power.
Italy in the global world map, the Map of Press Freedom, is painted yellow, like almost all African countries and many semi-dictatorship. The annual report on Italy is interesting

http://www.freedomhouse.org/template.cfm?page=251&country=7846&year=2010

If we consider all this emerges a stark contrast between what is the structure of Italy, the country system, which is in poor health backward, poorly managed and not very free, and what are the Italians.
think we are the seventh economy in the world. If it had included the "underground" (at least 30 or 40% of GPT) we might be the fifth or sixth of the world economy.
How does a people that has built the seventh economy in the world with few natural resources, a lot of barren mountains and few plains, a number of historical misfortunes, with more to be found, the antiquated institutions, governments incapable as the current one and false simplifications eat a free ride to the detriment of the voters?
There is no nation in the world that have the following contradiction: parameters from Third World nation, on the one hand, and an economy so significantly stronger and brighter on the other side (GDP of 1888 bn U.S. dollars with per capita income of U.S. $ 31,320 per year; Source: World Bank, January 2011).

The reality is that Italians know how to create wealth in spite of the irresponsibility of past and present of the ruling classes. They work hard and are creative, grandmothers and mothers work, cook and save money, and almost all, if they can make the double and third job, who can do the garden, grandparents make up for the lack of kindergartens, children help their fathers . And 'the miracle of the Italian family, the family company that works and produces.
We are a nation of ants who work, invest and put aside.
If the mortgage crisis has devastated the financial foundations of Italian society is because the Italians have common sense and do not "bite off more than you can chew."

But they have a defect. Accustomed to secular forms of oppression are so keenly aware of their adaptation to tolerate even situations that should not be accepted and, unfortunately, rather than overthrow the system that oppresses them, seeking to come to terms with it to derive some benefit, however large or small be. Unpaid taxes on undeclared, or sull'abusivismo building, North and South, Left and Right, Catholics and secularists, are much more similar than one would like to believe.
Tangentopoli broke out in Milan.
A Milano e a Roma, a Vicenza e a Palermo, a Napoli e a Firenze, a Torino e a Cagliari.
E si sa: in Italia tutti "tengono famiglia" e quindi tutti chiedono the "discount".
The "keep the family" is the metaphor of the national "amoral familism" that instead of denouncing the corrupt leader and his dishonest behavior, we become accomplices and pimps while safeguarding the interests of the family.
It pretends not to notice, you invent something that appeases the conscience. It is said, falsely, "Cosi fan tutte."
Moreover, if in Italy, a Catholic country par excellence, the Church does not say anything and do not report and agree with the ruling classes traditionally corrupt and dishonest, like the present, because the Italians, who follow the religion, are baptized , press and go to church on Sundays, should to be heroes?
Which God should be helped?
And then a brilliant and industrious people, it turns out both bigoted and conservative and is found in the current confused state of decline.

Blueprints To Build A Big Green Egg Table

The Dialogue Concerning the Maximum Systems

You saw what happened in Egypt and Libya? Now there is democracy, I said to Joseph and fiddles with the lock on the door.
All solved then, eh? I say, referring to the lock that looks good.
Yes, he says, the people won.
Where did you read? Everyone says
così.
E tu ci credi?
Non so.
Lui mi chiede perché voi italiani avete “that crazy man who is leading Italy, what’s his name?”
Forse ogni paese ha un “crazy man leading the country?”, rispondo imbarazzato...
Perché il popolo non se ne libera? Insiste…

That the achievements obtained so many sacrifices to be maintained with a constant commitment. Because freedom and democracy are like love. In order not to end it is necessary to feed, grow, surprise, to renew it.

The "formal democracies."

The existence of free elections open to all citizens without distinction of race, sex, social status or religion, it is necessary but not sufficient to establish a truly liberal and democratic.
A formal democracy is one in which there is universal suffrage, but andare a votare finisce per essere un mero rituale basato sull’apparenza, solo sulla forma , appunto.
I partiti presentano programmi simili e non effettivamente alternativi l’uno all’altro.
Le lobbies economiche influence the life of the country and limit the free development. The political power of the economic and financial market conditions and limiting their freedom. Honest entrepreneurs who pay taxes are exceeded in the economic competition of the market for the dishonest ones that do not pay or those who enjoy political support more or less disguised.
The people are not put in a position to interpret reality, has no incentive to study history and its multiple and diverse points of view, has no knowledge of economics, geography, geopolitics, can not discern between different ideological systems. In such societies, the school and university system is poor and does not allow a genuine political and civic education.
There are schools for the poor and schools for children of the rich: the future leaders. Public schools work and badly mainly because of insufficient funding.
keen readers and are the minority of educated society, ignorance is widespread and the media are in the hands of a few groups and families so that they can influence in their favor the view of voters.
The television networks, publishing houses and newspapers are owned by a few groups or people in this way directly affect, or so masked under a semblance liberal public opinion.
Publishing is reduced. Cinema, theater, music and art are limited and rare. Sport is used as panem and circuses. Religion is used to limit scientific freedom, culture and ideas. There
censorship or through a system that allows the career only to those who support the leaders in power, widespread self-censorship so that no journalist dares to write against the dictator in power because he decides the money and the political career of men and women of his entourage.

The substantive democracy.

A substantial democracy is a free and open society in the sense that Karl Popper has started to bear since 1945. A society open to external influences and capable of receiving internal criticism, which communicates with all, compared with the world and wants to grow and learn to build all the best.
There are free elections and a network of parties and associations that can represent various political opinions in the social and economic fabric. I actually started offering alternative programs.
In such societies, civil rights are widespread and not just a dead letter in written laws, but in the everyday civilian practice. The ethnic, religious, cultural, are protected without any discrimination.
The three powers of a democratic society, legislative, executive and judiciary, operate completely separately and independently.
The law is equal for all and there is no immunity for the powers that be.
The economic competition is free. The state punishes those who do not pay taxes because it avoids the rules of the free market that is strictly protected and encouraged because every society benefited by the wealth it produces. The state rewards employers who pay their taxes with strong incentives and rebates.
The school reaches 100% of the population is not only quantitatively significant, but also high quality. Public schools are nice and cozy. Teachers are carefully selected, well-paid job and a place of high quality. The universities offer scholarships to deserving students, support the studies of the needy. The historical and scientific debate is largely disclosed in order to arouse public and increase its capacity for self-determination choices regarding their future. The publisher is free and very lively. Readers are educated and devoted the majority of society. We publish many books and scientific and cultural research is effective and updated. Theater, music, art and film are easily accessible throughout the territory and possibly cheap. The formation of different opinions is encouraged. There is a government that establishes how you think. The high-speed Internet reaches 100% of the population and is cheap. E 'promoted the study of history. The political participation is encouraged.
Information is plural, and there are laws that prohibit businessmen entering politics to the world of information broadcast and printed. Public television and its news organizations not under pressure or censorship by the government.

Potatoes With Red Spots

"I believe in the ideas that become actions" (Ezra Pound)

Eppure non di rado mi capita di incontrare people who place a huge trust in their business plan in mind and see the destination point of the design business. But the idea is just a small step (the least difficult) path and the business plan is old the instant it exits the printer.

The truth is that ideas are now more than ever commodities (thus available in abundance) of little value unless they are backed by a strong attitude (this is very rare commodity) execution. I smile then faced with the attitudes of caution, reluctance, if not totally closed by potential employers worried about losing paternity of "their" idea.

I report about the concept of "idea as a multiplier proposed by a well-known character in American business during a presentation that I recently attended. In short this is the explanation:

bad idea = -1
Idea weak = 1
Good Idea
= 10 = 20 Bright Idea

No execution = $ 0 €
Performing weak = € 1000
Esecuzione buona = €100,000
Esecuzione brillante = €1000,000

I invest in people not ideas

When Hair Starts Growing After Brazilian Wax

A Southern Italy

"If you do not study Africa today and do not consider the wars in Africa do not understand the migration. If you do not know emigration is not possible to govern. Integration, citizenship, criminal activity, issuing visas, rejections: they are issues which, if not the reality we study, can not be considered seriously, they are just commercials election. Today, even Jesus, who was a foreigner, would be dismissed, expelled, returned. Europe colonized Africa, exploited, enslaved and eroded its resources. Today it is the one who does not want to know what happens to the neighbor who feels every day to die, until the neighbor's house burns and breaks even his. The global world is an opportunity to do business and get rich, but did not change the fate of billions of the world's poor. In recent years, moreover, we silently passed by the "war on poverty" to the "war on the poor" conducted on a large scale. "
I wrote these words a year ago: You can find the complete essay at the following address:
http://paologls.blogspot.com/2010/02/le-terre-di-nessuno-la-teoria-delle.html

Today on time, the average of all countries of the Western world are surprised by the "revolutions" in the Arab world and incapable of explanation.

E 'serious in Africa, a continent of great Italy 300 times in 20 minutes by hydrofoil from our shores, the Italians know nothing or almost nothing. Moreover
Italians do not learn their history, imagine if you study the history of other peoples.
http://paologls.blogspot.com/2010/10/storie-di-mari-e-migranti.html

The "west" of the information no longer works. Not working
financial information where frequent conflicts of interest have made the views of Moody's, Standard & Poors and Fitch Ratings less and less credible. The U.S. and the UK until a few years ago seemed like the Vestal Virgins of the international order, the wars to be decided without hearing the opinion of the UN today are not even able to make predictions about the short term. The Economist, the prestigious British magazine, wrote the number "The World in 2011", released in late 2010, that Libya would have been to 4% annual growth, that the power to Gaddafi was not at issue, which would have been no problems the forty years in power, who happen to him his son, but only in the coming years, that Libya is strong thanks to the massive gains from oil sales would be leading the markets and would bought and successfully invested in Africa.
Even the Anglo-American intelligence is in crisis, the CIA went from one failure to another. After the fool on "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq, never existed, but invented to allow President Bush to declare war on Iraq, the CIA was not able to understand what is happening in Afghanistan, Iran and in many Arab and African countries.

When Iran fell in 1978 in the Shah's regime there were many unmet expectations by the arrival of a ruthless theocratic dictatorship. Believing that the fairy tale with a magic wand Arabs are moving towards democracy is very dangerous. The idea of \u200b\u200bpeople courageous enough to fight dictatorships is full of new hopes, but I know that the hard part of every revolution is the next day. I hope I'm wrong, but fear not: in many cases it is very uncertain outcomes from changes that may create instability in the Mediterranean, in relations with Israel, throughout the world.

An example is Egypt's Mubarak.
There has never been, beyond the statement, a policy of genuine support for the development of democratic and liberal societies and, given the number of enemies and problems on the ground, it was not much open space for such a policy.
military intervention in Iraq, with its cargo of destruction, provided a great help to the fundamentalist propaganda that has taken power in all Arab countries.
These days the political apparatus of the Western powers seem wrong-footed and helpless expects to realize, with much uncertainty, who can win in different countries and then try to restore support, collaboration, recognition and alliances. The passage of the Iranian warships in the Suez Canal is a harbinger of how the Islamic radicalism is preparing to take full advantage of the current crisis in Arab countries.

Bumps On Penis Shaft Painful Sitting

The three "i" and the slow decline of Italy

The Italian government, beyond statements of intent, has not decided anything on the topics of biotechnology, energy research, development sustainable, science in the service of agriculture, industrial policy, infrastructure promises. The sites are at a standstill.
The prime minister is concerned about the companies it owns and cheerful female party-based "escort".

to the world of computing, in particular the speed of Internet usage, Italy ranks the seventieth place behind Jamaica. The premier of the seventh economy in the world had promised in 1994, the three "i" (English, internet, company) at the top of government: the result after fifteen years, is a failure.
In the Internet we are overtaken by all, be connected to broadband for many Italians is a mirage, an illusion or a shopping complex to address.
In several countries of Africa, the Internet is much faster and cheaper.
English is studied in schools like 50 years ago ("The pen is on the table"), indeed much worse because the "cuts" at the school signed by the minister Gelmini Tremonti has canceled on the order of the audio-visual laboratories, expelled the teachers of native speakers, even more depressed teachers for schools forced to turn the recorder is brought from home (after having supported mortifying collections to buy paper and ink copies of the missing copy machine). Several professors are merely the language skills learned at the time of their previous degree course at the University. Not always have a real knowledge of the language, the accent is what it is. They're not always up to the job and suffer condizioni inaccettabili di lavoro che spingono i più mediocri alla mera sopravvivenza e invitano i più bravi a cambiare lavoro o a diventare eroi.
Recentemente Sergio Romano, the columns of the Corriere della Sera, said that the prime minister, if convicted at first instance, it could continue to govern. I ask: anyone who happens to such a thing? A teacher convicted of first degree sexual relations with a minor to continue to teach and attend meetings and collegial conversations with parents? A kindergarten teacher convicted of child abuse continue to be in the classroom?
a premier European-level covered would face such serious charges to show up at international meetings?
And above all, as it represents the nation: enjoy the trust of its customers and other foreign leaders?
Prime Minister would, therefore, the good of the country if it gave in his resignation.
also are legitimate and have more questions, as well as those who came in 15 years of his government that makes laws to delete their processes, save its position of privilege, he put the handcuffs on judges.
We realize that we are moving from conflict of interest against the subversion of republican institutions and democratic?
The Italians should understand that it was a mistake to give credit to a person who has had 15 years to make the liberal revolution that had promised, and instead has turned Italy into a populist and authoritarian regime, in a society that maintains a system Democrat from a purely formal point of view, but which has lost the essence of genuine liberal democracies. What has muddied
Italy with his horrible behavior until it becomes the country's most derided in the world.
Maybe the prof. Roman wants to save the prime minister?
I would rather you save Italy.

Stomach Flu In Los Angeles 2009

"There is one thing most compelling of all the armies of the world, and this is an idea whose time has come" ( Victor Hugo)

E’ la storia del Palais Ideal , un fantastico castello situato a circa 45 km south of Lyon, in the obscure village of Hauterives. The Palais Ideal is a building that combines imaginative styles, colors and materials to shape a work that is unique in the world. A structure that in its point of maximum height reaches 12 meters, built with 3500 bags of clay and surrounded by walls of 1km.

M to the really surprising thing is that to achieve this miracle of the imagination was not a crowd workers and architects nor construction firm, but one man. And it took 33 years. His name is Ferdinand Cheval , and trade was a postman. With a primary education and without any technical knowledge or architectural Cheval managed to build something that really deserves to be seen and is now celebrated by artists and intellectuals.

Born in 1836 in the tiny village of Charmes-sur-l'Herbasse, Cheval covering a daily distance of about 20 km to complete deliveries post. According the most reliable sources Cheval one day he tripped on a rock that hit him round for its harmonious shape and perfectly smooth. From that moment on, day after day and quite careless of suspicion and dell'irrisione his countrymen, he began to collect the stones in the place where he was to rise to his castle. Armed with a little wheelbarrow and often getting up at two or three in the morning to have more time available before the start of his tour post, Cheval and kneaded constantly carrying stones and clay.

As his creation took form Cheval inscriveva nelle pareti aforismi e frasi  come “ La vita è un destriero veloce. I miei pensieri permarranno assieme a questa pietra ”, oppure “ Tutto ciò è fatto d’arte, sogno e energia ” o ancora “ Passante, tutto quello che vedi è il lavoro di un contadino ”.  I suoi compaesani incominciarono presto a crederlo pazzo ma già alla fine del 1800 il vociferare attorno a questo personaggio stralunato e alla sua fantastica creazione incominciava ad attrarre turisti e giornalisti da ogni dove.

Quando nel 1912 terminò his work he expressed the desire to be buried in it. But because local authorities did not welcome his desire for the postman Cheval went back to work. This time Hauterives inside the cemetery, where he built a mausoleum in which phantasmagoric lay his mortal remains. It took 8 more years to build this incredible tomb to which he gave the name " Tombeau du silence et du repos sans fin" (Tomb of the peace and quiet with no end) and that was buried with his wife in 1924 at the age of 88 years. Today, the Palais Ideal and the Mausoleum are officially recognized as Heritage of French culture and attract a steady stream of visitors and artists.

Ferdinand Chanel's story is exciting as well as the extraordinary business lesson that tells us. A lesson that admirably expresses the daring obstinacy that only the blind trust in un'dea, as crazy and bizarre, can nourish. Upon completion of his castle Cheval put a plaque that reads: " 1879-1912-10.000 days, 93000 hours, 33 years of struggle. Evidence of those who think they can do better. " The advance of an idea whose time has come is unstoppable.

I must point out this short documentary in English, if you want to look into.

Did Cartier Bresson Use Minilux

Winter Trail of the Village ... see you Rome

First the good news: a great day of rain and mud in the company of some of the protagonists of pain and other brave runners 4wd. Pressed by an unusually long night shift I decided to take refuge in the cozy cross Gramignazzo, not far from home, but this morning when you wake up after a "caricature" of sleep while the vision is blurred a hated face suggested timing most useful to the company, then the dawn of a rainy Sunday in February I am intent to imitate the goddess Kali between shower, making coffee and bag. Despite the scarcity of arts than the above model can accomplish everything and after a quick transfer to the car I find myself in a state of consciousness in the gym semialterata Borgotaro, skilled and enlisted. We are many, the rain and the combination of other races that apply to the provincial championship, held several regulars away, but just good, it says so right?
In the pre race between a chat and the other must suffer the inevitable teasing of those who now know, never take more seriously my grieving ads waiver of bids for work reasons.
A good shower of rain will be the way to the place the classic shot, a downhill for the country, then immediately climbs, steps and gravel between each takes his step, go up continuously, finally, I had a real withdrawal and trail for the first time I accompanied the rain, it is not but strong enough to bring out all the flavors of these colorful autumn woods and make the fund fun.
Eighteen kilometers with 800 meters of altitude, not bad, a good grind up the hill crossing then wallow in the mud, fun, a few stones then you can risk even a few slip, has been passed by some "extreme downhill", I like to watch them as they seem to fly from one point to another as if they had shoes Paperinik The only sore point of the race, a few kilometers of asphalt down, made necessary by the addition of some trees fall and further rock falls on the original location. I conclude my race more than happy to have participated but with a sore on both the performance (not so much the result but the feeling) that the knee pain that comes back to make peeps.
Lately I've been too precise in updating the blog so I failed to share the problems we had during the stages approach to the capital, long skipped or stopped beats tied more bland than a real physical decline, fear of too much stress objected to the joint moments of optimism now scaled by episodes like today I take you at the bitter decision: give up the Rome Marathon, now missing too little groped for a recovery impossible, even if there were conditions, will be back soon on the subject, now the work waiting for me.
Good racing to all!

Veho Scanner Not Appearing

9 th and awards Fidal

Confirmed Vicofertile curse, this time the alarm is working, but between a PC and a glance at the newspaper ... as soon as it is getting late and I'm forced once again the struggle with time even before the start. Luckily I have already signed up so the twenty minutes between parking and turn out to be shot sufficienti ad una vestizione in stile Arturo Brachetti e ad un riscaldamento tendente al tiepido.
Giornata spettacolare dopo un periodo di tempo pessimo, si parte e subito mi immergo nella tempesta di gomiti e caviglie cercando di guadagnare qualche posizione, le facce che mi circondano confermano che sono indietro però dopo la partenza stentata inizio a recuperare 2010 experiencing some trunks, some improved significantly, others like me back, the only thing to do is use the opportunity to get used to the spirit with which we must address this gap: a little more than possible from beginning to end, then go further in the final, I try to prevent any overtaking, but some people just are not able to resist, now the die is cast in the inflatable and the passage marks the end of the first real effort of 2011 ... without the help chip! In fact the new system hyper-linked to the new chip, which would give the possibility to consult the online leader soon after the race, decided to forfeit forcing commissioners to work crazy to be able to generate the list in time for the awards.
Out for today from the ranking of best category, however, the time of last year of 1'10 "before being rewarded with a nice full race marked Fidal mm45 as a fifth of the provincial championship in 2010 along with seven other anzianotti (in the picture we 6, the release of the full group was terrible), the first left Gianfranco, sworn enemy with whom we played in the championship on the line ... and the second equality of races.
Good racing!

Manhattan Cam Treiber Model 460668

Athletes Run Well yes!

... ah forget: this was my first race race co ... Indeed, no! This deserves a separate post coming soon! "
So I concluded my previous post, that the painful and here I am almost on time to complete the sentence:
this was the first race run with real teammates, someone already known of the rough paths some trail, some seen for the first time on this occasion.

Well yes! Almost seven years since my pseudo debut in the race, years during which I am raised some small satisfaction, first as an independent, then as individual Uisp, I find myself writing (but not by chance) at a sports club, here it is:
my favorite color along with the mascot for excellence and a nice group of fans of various levels in all sections, with each couple, or the ultra Katie and Nicola at the end of a talk at the Trail of the 9 bridges invited me to join the team, which as I said they gave me great pleasure, making me overcome my fears of bureaucratic meetings or forced participation in tenders.
All this was then formalized on Sunday, the first presentation and a good race where Katie not to disprove ... came first. I do not think
to attend all sections (never say never) the aim is to satisfy my tendency to bigamy, repeatedly expressed (I recommend the immediate reading of the order link avoid misunderstandings) and indispensable thing, continue to cultivate this passion, aiming mainly to have fun, which given the circumstances of the pain should not be difficult.
Good racing!

Obama: innovation and entrepreneurship

I write this post a short speech that the U.S. President, Barack Obama, held here on campus at Penn State and I do it to highlight some important steps.
The purpose of the visit was to highlight how research in clean technologies ( clean tech ) sia una delle priorità individuate dall'amministrazione Obama.

Quel che mi ha sorpreso e, perchè no, anche un po' inorgoglito è stato sentire il Presidente degli Stati Uniti parlare di innovazione e di imprenditorialità specifying a specific and, in extreme synthesis and effective, what is the path that links these two concepts:
Ideas -> Search -> Protection of intellectual property -> Funds for enterprises and deregulation -> Enterprises creation

Simple, clear and effective. Sign that the institutional system is aware of how things work and what the mechanisms regulating them.

You could do the same thing in Italy?

Mount And Blade Become A King Mod

The Painful ... Back

Sunday morning, the alarm sounds merciless despite the public holiday but the mood is not to pre-employment, the blind date ... in all directions is not competitive with the (pious desire of the organizer), which gives the title to the post, which was discovered accidentally by his friend Stephen.
The weather conditions are not too exciting, right from the night before the snow continued to fall but not abundant but constant the flyer reads: "the race will take place with any weather condition." O ach fear a Pisan-style epilogue is averted.
bag of coffee and prepare to weather a look via the PC confirms that even in Fornovo Berceto and points of departure and arrival Siberia is at home, while a glance at the bed just left his wife confirms that pretends deep coma to escape the fateful question ... " that you come from?"
Roads initially to the limits of practicality, then the situation improves, and in about half an hour Fornovo where I find myself in a completely white landscape and still the only forms of life are a handful of colorful masochistic (in theme with the name of the event) that trample all eager to prove to people that the Act 180 continues to bear fruit, in the Town Hall gathering place of the inscriptions on the Environment is the classic pre-race, the usual suspects in abstinence from running events, time passes in between fun memories of last season and plans for the future as the city policeman assigned to public phones with expression stunned disbelief as his colleagues, warning that the race start.
And here we are at the start, the snow still falling and will accompany us throughout the race, you start in a tight group, the risk of falls is high but the air is just that a trip, change pitch just to get people to say goodbye, it slows down to join someone else and so on, the sound of footsteps is covered by happiness and shouting with laughter, the laughter slowly and inexorably fall and even the chatter , not a collective attack of melancholy ... the cause is clearly visible in the picture above.
This was to be the day long, but I think I found a good alternative, about thirty miles without rest, the deadly attack, the first goal that I ask myself is: not even one meter step! The group quickly and shelling as usual, you find yourself eye contact with "trunks" known, the silence is broken only by the our breath, the sound of footsteps is completely muffled by the snow except at times when stamp their feet firmly on the ground trying to regain traction, it adds to the difficulty of the climb is the loss of effectiveness of the thrust due to the bottom very slippery, the expenditure energy increases, often proceed in a zigzag look of the fund which will provide a better grip, following the footsteps of the group's head. Fatigue is brutal but the landscape is fabulous, every time I leave the visor of the cap from the snow, the first light brow approffitta to catch my breath, though the climb was tiring hours the risk of falling at every step, but it is already time scale, a new climb up to now are failed to meet the goal, now that we are at a higher altitude, the presence of ice is more common and more difficult then finally push the second long descent, I dare a little, bend almost any skid but a fun one, breath the icy air of his lungs trying to lift his legs, a fantastic time, I can not help but throw in a scream "style Beppe" (I'll explain another day), energy storage for the final climb, five miles of hard real with legs already tested, it seems never end also because the location is perfectly unknown to me, then finally a small label with black lettering indicates the finish line, a distance of bob down and finally under the inflatable, very satisfied, not so much of the time (just under 2:45 seventh overall), but the response to fatigue, especially on the part of the knee for no apparent reason lately I have created several problems. Beautiful pictures of group travel with its neighbors, (I hope to have them), highlight my hat with ice stalactites which came down from the visor and beard completely frozen mythical Abdellah, while the rest involved the kindest shivered from us!
hot shower and after the third time in front of a nice plate of pasta and a Parmesan bell'assaggio, the group is back together with your legs under the table, now the effort is already a distant memory, si commenta l'impresa appena compiuta in attesa del pullman che ci riporterà a Fornovo, qualche inconveniente durante questa fase ma senza alcuna vena polemica, anzi ha aggiunto divertimento a divertimento!
Buone corse!

Cube Field Colors In Order

Creativity and Collaboration (Part II)

In previous episode of this post we were left discussing the relationship between social networks and creativity. As I told you with my colleague Gino Cattani New York University have tested these ideas in the context of Hollywood cinema (for a detailed discussion here the scientific article). In summary, after more than three years of data collection, we analyzed the structure of collaborations with about 30 thousand professionals from Hollywood (including directors, actors, editors, writers, producers, cinematographers, set designers and composers), between 1992 and involved 2004 in the implementation of 2300 film.

order to objectify the creative performance of each individual We then took into account a wide range of prestigious prizes awarded annually by the American film (like the Oscar, Golden Globe, the Los Angeles Film Critics Awards, New York Film Critics, etc. ..). We then compared the resulting indicator with the network of partnerships developed by each artist during his career. In doing so we discovered a very interesting trend. The most creative individuals do not operate in the edges of this network, but are not even central. Typically, however, to intermediate positions between the periphery and the center of the social system that matches the creative success. What does this result? That has practical implications for those deals, for example, innovation management or management of creativity? If you are curious let me refer you to the podcast of this interview , I recently released a national broadcaster discussing broad spectrum of creativity and collaboration. The file is a little heavy but the sound quality is OK. Enjoy!

Testicular Fluid Retention

Once again Italy and the Italians go on the front pages of newspapers around the world. Not for the successes achieved by our country, but for things to be ashamed of. There is a premier of a nation which is the seventh industrial power in the world does not care about the scandals that produces with his behavior and is not interested in world public opinion. E ' accused of serious facts, unworthy of the prime minister of a nation that is renowned worldwide for its high contribution to civilization. If he is innocent, as they hope all those who care about the image of our country, can prove it in court, whether he is guilty it must show the judges. What the premier should not do is to avoid the proceedings with the ploy to move the process in Monza: so, thanks to a formal defect, it will not be judged as has already happened in dozens of other processes that relate to tax evasion, false accounting, corruption, fraud. We hope that the premier is so manfully wise to save the Italian people and the world yet another solution "Italian" to be "mischievous to the government." Nothing escapes in style on September 8, please!

"The people elected me!"

Our premier constantly reminds Italians that voted for him.

Even Hitler was elected by the Germans. On March 5, 1933 in Germany was the Democratic Republic: The Nazi Party won the election with 17,277,180 votes, 43.9%. The SPD, the Social Democrats, had 18.3%. The communists to 12.3. The Centre Party, a grouping of the SVP type Casini, 11, 2. Then there were many other parties, such as the Bavarian People's Party or that they took from 2 to 8% and many others.

Certo, anche nel 1933 la propaganda e l’attivismo di piazza dei nazisti aveva its effect, but the radio was in its infancy, there were very few devices that use solid regime wanted to make was still to come. The sound in cinema was in its infancy and the halls for the screening were not numerous.

Consider now the world today and the media power, financial and enterprise of our prime minister: it is one of the richest people in the world, owns dozens of national television and regional daily into the homes of the Italians, has the the biggest publishing houses, numerous newspapers, banks, insurance companies, supermarkets and businesses of all kinds. In addition, as Prime Minister can put his men to the direction of the national news, to influence or promote the careers of journalists and the world of culture and information. Despite this, or perhaps because of this too, is loved by many Italians who see flaws in his mirrors, and in his own ability to stay afloat ever see mirrored a typical national virtue.

had deceived many fellow citizens with the "Contract with the Italians," signed in 1994 during the TV show "Porta a Porta", found his personal biographer Bruno Vespa had promised to "create" a truly liberal and prosperous country, without bureaucracy , with lower taxes, with one million jobs in more now. At that time business was good and there was no economic crisis. It 'was the government 15 years and Italy is poorer than before, without a business plan, with more bureaucracy and more taxes than before, with the income tax in our country 90% is paid by employees only, and retirees, with more serious social inequalities as before. Even his loyal ally for 14 years, Gianfranco Fini, has noticed that his premiership is bad for Italian democracy.

The Church however has not noticed anything. The Holy Father, so careful and sensitive to every social and cultural phenomenon, every week we talk about family and marriage and opposes sex education in schools. The Prime Minister had already two marriages, both failed, the second after that had been interested in Naomi Letizia until the angry the second wife Veronica Lario. Many have seen and heard the horrible joke with appalling blasphemy end he pronounced:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=654gzZuw-zc

He told the police headquarters in Milan and is the granddaughter of Ruby Egyptian President Mubarak (who knows what do you think the Egyptian leader) and now is accused of having intercourse with her and other young underage prostitutes. With the same accusations, true or untrue, and with the same air of scandal all the newspapers of the world premier of a European level would have immediately resigned to safeguard itself and especially the tarnished image of an Italy. The televisions are a model of its own negative educational impact of spectacle and anti-Christian, I do not know if you have never seen the programs of the De Filippi, for example, or varieties on Saturday evening. The premier has repeatedly said "I do not change my lifestyle," implying that a seratina happy with the "good girls" Sometimes it takes. The prime minister is known as a precarious that the young man who asked his advice for future studies responded "marry a rich man, one of my children." Of all this the Church never speaks, the Vatican authorities seem satisfied with the funding to public schools and removed the data scuole private cattoliche.

Qualcuno ci ha provato nel corso degli anni, but with uncertain political actions of thinness. Never a serious historical analysis or a global redefinition of identity. The Left needs a clear plan, a credible leader and a lot of units.

The Right, however, should make clear that fascism was an "experiment" catastrophic and the only one you want is an Italy Italy liberal and democratic.

Fini, even with the stain of the alliance with the fifteen most illiberal and incumbent prime minister after the war, he understood, even if delayed, while many others have not yet understood.

There is a third type of Italian that in any war, if you slipped away: 8th September '43 and now. They are the ones who supported the DC for 50 years just because we did business, would support the Communists if they had time to make us business, they support the current prime minister for the same reason. They are the true weight of the country. They belong to all possible parties, but abound in the current majority.

We need to go beyond the old ideological fences. Parri De Gasperi and Togliatti Pertini, in 1946, with dialogue and love for their country rebuilt the nation mortally wounded by fascism. We need the same ambition and all the useful dialogue to rebuild the country and do so to escape the civil and moral decline.

My feeling is that the Right or Left, North or South, there is a gulf between the Italians and their historical and political representation. The Italians really feel represented by the North Trout, pluribocciato maturity, 8,000 euro per month, elected councilor in blocked list because of Bossi's son?

Since I do not think it is the responsibility of the Lord to help Italy, and I do not think the Church in this particular area is very enlightened by the Holy Spirit, we think we Italians as has already happened before.

rewrite history and to overcome the climate of civil war that has divided the nation for 65 years is a major task, but our intellectuals think pleasant to publish literary masterpieces (Eco) are closed in the house instead of producing films (Moretti), play politics for their own petty partisan interests (too many), can speak only to insiders or cry on the "prevailing indifference" (Galli della Loggia).

All are waiting for something to happen.

Our first task, while many politicians and masters of thought are watching, will rebuild and reconstruct the historical memory of the pride of a nation wounded by its long civil war.
I know there is a majority of the Italian left and right, the South and North that is fed up with the premier and politics as it is. This
ordinary people and Italy has already made simple and made it great: today must be ready to reclaim it from those who continue to tarnish.

Canker Sores From Sweets

bread and circuses.

But this Monday I understand their indigestible.
A few days before the referendum which ratified the de facto return to a climate of industrial revolution, all the players in good and evil have come back into oblivion, to any of them will certainly comfortable, the majority a little less . This timely
itchy outbreak of yet another scandal reminds me of the classic trick from thieves by half a point, one steals a candy making pursuit by the seller and in the meantime the accomplice empties the cash! Now far be it from me to equate the known facts of a theft of candy, but my feeling is that you try to transform the shopkeeper in office, and the sad thing is that we are succeeding alla grande.
said Susanna Camusso well yesterday interviewed by Lucia Annunziata, I do not remember the exact words but the meaning was this: "in recent years have made us believe that we all worked in finance or in any of the luxuries, that manual labor , because of fatigue and discomfort had disappeared, but it is not " In fact, he simply stopped talking about it, making him non-existent, except for a few brief appearance when some members of the class inappropriately decide to join the list of" white deaths ".
But responsibility for this is partly due to years of neglect of the representatives of both trade unions to change taking place both in society and the world of work itself, years of living as the title,-style "bread and circuses" in a reality in my opinion, masterfully described in Massimo Giannini yet despite everything, the light I do not see the outcome of the referendum great concern even among the vast majority of my colleagues, almost did not affect them, are all much more interested in fantasizing about erotic exploits the heartthrob of the moment, then saw that as we are told, there is the crisis, I would also remove the first element of the title directly to the benefit of the second ... Juvenal in his time was too generous.
Sorry if I bored!

The ACADEMIC ENTREPRENEUR

A seguire ha sintetizzato per noi i risultati di un suo study recently published and which was also discussed in the prestigious journal Nature . So, Richard, to you the word!

Creating Enterprise in academic

Over the past ten years, in all industrialized countries, the universities have been under massive pressure from 'Public opinion and the politicians themselves about the need to maintain high levels of productivity in the face of greater rationalization of input factors. In addition, following the recent global financial crisis, as evidenced by recent events in the UK, universities have had to manage a large reduction in public funding for research and at the same time, following pressure from the political world, to emphasize the applied research activities in an attempt to increase the cash receipts arising from the commercialization of university research (OECD, 2009).

As a result, university administrators and politicians themselves have invested a considerable amount of resources to enact and support technology transfer activities (Knowledge Transfer Activities - KTA) on the part of academics. For example, the United States, two of the most important laws of KTA, the Bayle-Dole Act and the Stevenson-Wydler Act, were enacted in the early '80s, and have made possible and guaranteed to universities and government laboratories can to patent their research results, taking possession of any royalties arising from the commercialization of technology. Other nations have invested in similar reforms, such as the reform of the university system in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands in the 90s, the so-called Loi Allegre introduced in 1999 in France, and the introduction of specific laws by the Swedish government to ' early 80s. More recently, in Italy, has witnessed the creation of a new institutional system (following the introduction of Law 297 in 1999), which allowed the transfer of certain executive powers from central government to individual universities, emphasizing the business practices within of each institution.

The KTA can arise as a result of two processes markedly different. Some of them refer to those areas where progress in scientific knowledge is mainly due to the introduction of new practices and methodologies that arise sudden changes and discontinuities technological scenarios in the reference. This occurs in those technology areas such as pharmaceuticals and biotechnology that are characterized by high appropriability regimes, where there is the possibility of protecting technological innovation through the use of intellectual property. The commercialization of university research results is, in this case, through the practice of patenting, the granting of technology licenses and through the creation of new enterprises based on patented technology (IP-based KTA). In other cases, however, the KTA are primarily originated through the recombination of existing knowledge, seeking solutions to problems through the use of previous discoveries, rather than new technological paradigms. This occurs mainly in the natural and social sciences, through consultancy and collaboration between universities and business (not IP-based KTA).

Despite the documented heterogeneity, most studies focused on KTA-based technology protected by intellectual property rights. Therefore, to date, there are still many gaps on the state of the art knowledge. First, we do not know the extent of the phenomenon, not knowing what percentage of the KTA occur inside and outside the system of intellectual property. We have no further information about the differential impact and effectiveness of university support mechanisms on the activation of both types of KTA. Because of the paucity of such data, in many cases it was verified that the university administrators and policy-oriented mechanisms have emphasized the protection of university intellectual property, considering the university as a true private enterprise, rather than support and allow for greater sharing of knowledge between universities and the market. In an effort to protect and exploit the knowledge developed in universities, such practices have originated, Paradoxically, a reduction of collaborations between companies and universities, as documented in the literature.

In the article entitled "Inside or Outside the IP-System. Business Creation in Academia "appeared in Research Policy in 2010, we sought to contribute to this debate by showing how the United States, spin-offs that come down the commercialization of technology protected by intellectual property rights are based on a kind of knowledge restricted to a few areas of science (as compared with those that arise outside the IP system). The study, conducted in 2007, and 'based on a sample of 11,572 individuals, representative of the entire population of the U.S. academic (58 646) . The results show that study participants have founded 1,948 companies, of which 682 are based on technology patented and the remaining 1,266 no. This trend once again testifies to the fact that if the attention and support to the practice of transfer of academic knowledge is focused on the only domains in which scientific knowledge is actually patentable, an entire part KTA of them could be severely damaged.
